Thanksgiving & Winter Break Support!

Houselessness and hunger are a very real issue in Portland that impacts members of our West Sylvan Middle School community. Many of these families need help with meals over the Thanksgiving and Winter Breaks when free school meals aren't available. Please consider volunteering your time and/or resources to help make someone’s holiday brighter!

WE WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT 30+ FAMILIES IN OUR WSMS COMMUNITY THIS YEAR FOR BOTH THANKSGIVING BREAK AND WINTER BREAK!

FOR THANKSGIVING BREAK, baskets of non-perishable holiday and general food items will be created to help families feed their children during the vacation week along with a gift card for perishable food. Volunteers are paired with an anonymous outreach family they will shop for, using a suggested shopping list.
Food Basket drop off will be at West Sylvan Middle School - date and time details TBD.

FOR WINTER BREAK, FoWS will use donated funds to purchase gift cards from local grocery stores.

Food Baskets and gift cards will be distributed confidentially by the West Sylvan Counseling Department.

Ready to assist? There are two ways to support:

1. If you would like to volunteer and shop for a Food Basket for a family, please contact coordinator Leigh Kitchin at westsylvanholiday@gmail.com

2. Donate to gift cards needed for Thanksgiving Break perishable items, as well as Winter Break grocery gift cards HERE.

For questions about Winter Break gift cards, please email hi@friendsofwestsylvan.org
